Synopsis
How does the male gaze shape female anger and vengeance? Why are female avengers often isolated?
For her staging workshop, Yvonne Sembene examines the representation of female vengeance in opera, which has long been shaped by a male perspective oscillating between justice and spectacle, between catharsis and confinement in fixed archetypes.
Lulu, Lucretia, Carmen, Medea... Memories of Women rethinks revenge not as individual punishment, but as a collective dynamic driven by solidarity and the reappropriation of power.
By combining mythological figures, contemporary stories and cases of abuse, the director places the symbolism of vengeance, in feminine terms, within a contemporary discourse on emancipation.
