The costumes workshops are located both at the Palais Garnier and the Bastille Opera. The first one hosts the ballet costumes production, and the second one the opera costumes.
Theaters and Workshops : Costumes workshops
Dressmaking workshops
For a production, the costume designer first presents a mock-up of the costumes to the Opera workshops, which then budget the cost of their making.
Once the materials are selected, they are sewn in the tailor's workshop for men's costumes and in the flou (soft) workshop for women's costumes.
Inside this dressmaking workshop, the costume decoration workshop can dye and paint some costumes to obtain special effects or shades. They also take in charge all the decorative elements, the jewels and accessories.
A milliner workshop takes care of the hats and headgears, and the shoemakers find or make shoes for the artists for every production. For each new performance, four to six months of work may be required.
