Synopsis

Who, man or woman, committed the first act of infidelity?
To resolve this question, a prince reveals to his court, and to the woman he desires, an experiment once imagined by his father: to return to the origins of the world by staging the encounter of four teenagers, isolated from society and from one another for seventeen years. First glances, first emotions, upheavals of the senses: soon the experiment takes unexpected turns, leaving the question unanswered.
Freely inspired by Marivaux’s La Dispute, the Paris Opera Academy’s new creation, Ce qui brûle en silence, explores the themes of love, desire and domination through madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi and Philippe Fénelon. These works echo both the impulses of the heart and the cruelty of a ruthless court.
Interweaving baroque and contemporary music, Victoria Sitjà directs this musical production performed by the Academy’s artists in residence.
