Dreams of other worlds

A report from the costume workshops for La Sylphide — By Octave

From a Scottish cottage to the ghostly lights of a magical forest, the elements making up La Sylphide revolve around an imaginary theatrical world that offers an illusion of immateriality. Michel Fresnay's costumes evoke the same aesthetic, with farandoles in Scottish kilts and seraphic tulle dresses that leave the impression of an enchanted dream. Photographer Natalia Voronova slips into the costume workshops at Garnier where magic happens.
