Philip Ellis Conductor

Biography

Conductor of Birmingham Royal Ballet since 1990, Philip Ellis also works as a guest conductor for numerous international ballet companies. In recent seasons, he has conducted productions for the Finnish National Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris, the Korean National Ballet, the Tokyo Ballet and the Dutch National Ballet.

He has also directed La Scala Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Sarasota Ballet, Angel Corella Ballet, Semper Opera Ballet, English National Ballet, Gothenburg Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Polish National Ballet, Kobayashi Ballet and numerous productions for Australian Ballet and Mikhailovsky Ballet. Philip Ellis has also worked extensively as a symphony conductor with the Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, Hallé, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Concert Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic, National Symphony of Mexico, Württemburgische Philharmonie Reutingen, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Orchestre national de Belgique, Flanders Symphony, Western Australian Symphony and Sydney Symphony Orchestras.

Concerts with chamber orchestras include concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Northern Sinfonia and over 400 concerts with English Sinfonia. Winner of the 1992 Leeds Conducting Competition, Philip Ellis has recorded with the Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. In his spare time, he is a passionate artist who works on a wide range of 2D media.
