3e Scène

No more pretending

Le Fantôme, an original production for the 3e Scène by Jhon Rachid and Antoine Barillot

By Milena Mc Closkey 20 May 2019

For the first time, the Paris Opera’s 3e Scène gives free rein to Internet video makers. Youtuber Jhon Rachid and director Antoine Barillot chose to revive the legend of the phantom of the Opera in a movie where they mix fantastic tale and romantic comedy genres. The main character, played by Jhon Rachid, is looking for a gangster on the run. As if by magic, he travels from the tunnels of his own suburb to the bowels of the Palais Garnier, as the man he is looking for is hiding there, under the phantom’s mask… The movie explores these two characters’ journey towards self-acceptance and the possibility of finding love. In this interview, Jhon Rachid and Antoine Barillot tell us more about this project, how the “phantom” allows them to talk about the unseen people of the suburban world, and their opportunity to shoot a movie at the Opera.
