Biography

The Samoan Pene Pati performs on the major international opera stages. He has performed the roles of the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) at the San Francisco Opera and Percy (Anna Bolena) at the Opéra national de Bordeaux. In recent seasons, Pene Pati has made numerous debuts, notably in the roles of Romeo (Romeo and Juliet) at the San Francisco Opera, Opéra Comique and Opéra national de Bordeaux, Alfredo (La Traviata) at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Amsterdam's National Opera and Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, and Des Grieux (Manon) at Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Last season, he further expanded his repertoire with the roles of Rodolfo (La Bohème) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Fernand (La Favorite) at the Opéra national de Bordeaux and the title role of Mitridate, re di Ponto at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden. In the 2023-2024 season, Pene Pati returned to Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden for Rigoletto.

He made his debuts at the Hamburg Staatsoper in Manon and at Berlin's Deutsche Opera in La Traviata. Across the Atlantic, he appeared in La Bohème with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto and in L'Élixir d'amour with the San Francisco Opera. In concert, Pene Pati has appeared with Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra in Otello (Cassio), with Hans Graf and the Tonkünstler Orchester in Le Chant de la Terre and, as part of the "Les Grandes Voix" series, with Pierre Bleuse and the Orchestre national de France in Thaïs. Pene Pati records exclusively for Warner Classics. His debut album won the Opus Klassik prize in the Revelation of the Year category and the Opera Magazine Readers' Choice Award.
