Born into a family of musicians, Cyrille Lacrouts began playing the cello at the age of six with Erwan Fauré. He was admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the composition class (specializing in solfeggio, harmony), then in cello and chamber music. After winning several first prizes, he continued his studies in Moscow with Natalia Chakovskaya. Fascinated by the orchestral and operatic repertoire from an early age, he joined the Orchestre de l'Opéra national de Paris at the age of twenty and was appointed principal cellist two years later. He has met and worked with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Myung Whun Chung, Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev, Esa Peka Salonen, Sir Georg Solti, Seji Ozawa, George Prêtre...
Guest Principal Soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra, he has performed at the Barbican in London, the Berlin Philharmonic and in Spain. He has also appeared as solo cellist with the Orchestre National de France under Riccardo Muti and Kurt Masur, as well as with the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France. Appointed by Valery Gergiev, he is a member of the World Orchestra for Peace, performing at Prom's in London and the Salzburg Festival, among others. Since its inception, he has also played in the Utopia project directed by Teodor Currentzis.
Cyrille Lacrouts has recorded film music with Michel Legrand, Vladimir Cosma and Pierre Adenot, and performed in concert with Diana Krall and Lalo Schiffrin. He also teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. He plays an 1863 cello by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume.
