Défis de création
Décorer le costume à l’Opéra de Paris
Exhibition
from April 1st, 2026 to September 30th, 2026 inclusive
The exhibition is accessible as part of a visit to the Palais Garnier, except on days of exceptional closures (check calendar).
A stage costume is the result of a convergence of many talents: once conceived and crafted, it is in the hands of decorative artisans that it truly comes to life.
Their expertise, combining traditional and experimental techniques, is the final stage that brings the designers’ vision to fruition.
Within the costume decoration workshops, the original appearance of fabrics is transformed through various enhancement processes, including printing, painting, and dyeing.
The arts of costume jewelry and structural framework, as well as the creation of armor and three-dimensional body pieces, are also part of the skill set of these masters of trompe-l’œil.
We invite you to discover these manufacturing secrets through a selection of pieces from the Paris Opera’s repertoire.
With this exhibition, we pay tribute to the career of Mr. Jean-Bernard Scotto, Head of Costume for opera productions, who left his mark on forty years of creation at the Paris Opera.
