Manon, the headstrong lover - Interview with soprano Amina Edris

By Marion Mirande

Amina Edris returns to Vincent Huguet's production of Manon, which premiered in 2020 at the Opéra Bastille.

The production plunges us into the world of the Roaring Twenties, when Josephine Baker, a woman as free and passionate as Massenet's heroine, was at the height of her fame. This is the Egyptian soprano's favourite role.

À L'AFFICHE - Manon, temptation or redemption?

By Théo Schornstein, Valentine Boidron

But make no mistake, Manon is free by nature!

So the next time you hear talk of a rebellious woman and an invitation to enjoy life, think of the heroine of Abbé Prévost and Jules Massenet!

By Isabelle Stibbe

For this new production of Il Trittico at the Bastille Opera, stage director Christof Loy, who makes his Paris Opera debut, and soprano Asmik Grigorian, who portrays the three roles of this triptych, discuss their dramatic choices and the how to approach the different characters.

With Toi toi toi, the Paris Opera is inviting you to meet artists who will enlighten the works for us, a few days before the beginning of the performance.

These special moments at the Bastille Opera’s Amphitheatre or Studio will be the occasion to become more familiar with new productions and the Paris Opera repertoire, and to discuss with artists at the end of each session.

A hypnotic dance

By Antony Desvaux

Ten years after the creation of her emblematic piece OCD Love for her own company L-E-V, Sharon Eyal offers a new version for the dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet. Naïs Duboscq shares the experience of working with the choreographer in the studio, and discusses her signature language, the ‘demi-pointe’.

She evokes the powerful images that make up the choreography, such as a fountain of tears or the strike of a sword. Finally, she explains how this re-reading of OCD Love, entitled Vers la mort (Towards Death), deploys the theme of obsessive-compulsive disorder both in the gestures and in the use of techno music.

Interview with Christof Loy

Three women, one story

By Marion Mirande

Puccini's Triptych, composed in 1918, comprises three operas set in different worlds – the banks of the Seine in Paris at the turn of the 20th century, a convent in the 17th century, and Florence at the end of the Middle Ages – which, although autonomous, form a whole. By rethinking their original order, director Christof Loy has devised a dramatic form from which a woman's profile emerges, portrayed by the great soprano Asmik Grigorian.
