THE PARIS OPERA LAUNCHES A NEW EHPAD* OFFER (*ELDERLY CARE HOMES)

23 February 2023THE BALLET FUNDRAISER GALA HOMMAGE À PATRICK DUPOND WAS HELD AT THE PARIS OPERA 9 March 2023EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE ACADÉMIE AND THE LINDEMANN YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM - METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE

The Paris Opera and Le Temps de Jouer are joining forces to offer new forms of entertainment to the elderly care homes’ residents, based on ballet and opera filmed performances, including Swan Lake, Don Quixote,The Tales of Hoffmann and The Barber of Seville.

The institutions are invited to take out an annual subscription to the partner company Le Temps de Jouer, directly on the website ateliers-ludiques.operadeparis.fr, where they will find online workshops to organize and run their own activities around the performances.

ENHANCING THE OPERA’S CULTURAL OUTREACH

The Paris Opera and Le Temps de Jouer have developed a range of recreational workshops based on the Opera’s performances and specially conceived for the elderly care homes. An annual subscription will allow the members to access turnkey workshops designed for the staff, volunteers and coordinators, to then meet the needs of the residents and offer them quality cultural content through immersive music and dance experiences. These workshops - designed as web media to be screened - are available on the website: https://ateliers-ludiques.operadeparis.fr/

THE PERFORMANCES ADAPTED TO SENIOR RESIDENTS

These activities combine introductory workshops to a piece with screening sessions. You can take three workshops for each performance. Each one of them allows you to find out more about the ballet and opera world through various approaches: music, instruments, voices, decors, costumes, history… The pictures and video excerpts create emotions, and the different games stimulate memory and speech. This playful introduction helps to better understand the work, to then fully enjoy its performance.

MAKING THE PERFORMANCES ACCESSIBLE TO ALL

With this new offer, Le Temps de Jouer and the Paris Opera are involved in reducing a sometimes difficult access to culture in the care homes, but also in all institutions for the elderly, throughout France. Based on ballet and opera works, the catalog, which includes classics such as Swan Lake, Don Quixote, The Tales of Hoffmann or The Barber of Seville, will be enriched each year, to offer an ever increasing number of performances.
