Mr. Petteri Iivonen is appointed concertmaster at the Paris Opera Orchestra

The Paris Opera is proud to announce the nomination of Mr. Petteri Iivonen as First Solo violin of the Paris Opera Orchestra. He will assume his new position beginning of the 2019/20 season and will work with Frédéric Laroque, First Solo violin of the Paris Opera Orchestra.

He replaces Maxime Tolance, an exceptional violinist who occupied this position for 30 years and left the Paris Opera on December, 31st 2018.

Mr. Iivonen was appointed after an international competition held on 18-19 June 2019, on the stage of the Bastille Opera and along the Orchestra for the final round. The Jury was presided over by Philippe Jordan, Musical director of the Paris Opera, and included David Chan, concertmaster of the New York Metropolitan Opera. The last First Solo violin’s competition for the Paris Opera Orchestra had been held in 1992.
