Member of the Lyric Ensemble of the Paris Opera
Holding a bachelor’s and master’s degree in vocal performance from the Curtis Institute of Music, Canadian-Armenian bass-baritone Vartan Gabrielian is a former member of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio in Toronto and the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program.
A finalist in the 2022 Belvedere Competition and semi-finalist in the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, he has also received awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, the Sylva Gelber Foundation, and the George London Foundation.
In recent seasons, Vartan Gabrielian has performed a wide range of roles, including Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Basilio (The Barber of Seville), Fasolt (Das Rheingold), and Friar Laurence (Romeo and Juliet).
During the 2025–2026 season, he will make his debut at the Royal Ballet and Opera in the role of Robert (Les Vêpres siciliennes) and at the Lausanne Opera as Sparafucile (Rigoletto). Vartan Gabrielian is a member of the Lyric Ensemble of the Paris Opera for the 2025–2026 season.
