Sylvie Perret Harpe
Orchestra of the Opera

© Julien Benhamou / OnP

Biography

Born to musician parents, Sylvie Perret began studying the harp at the age of seven at the Bordeaux Conservatory. She received early encouragement from the legendary harpist Lily Laskine. She continued her training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Jacqueline Borot, where she was awarded a Premier Prix. A finalist in the Young Talents Competition of the South-West, she joined the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris at the age of 21.

Shortly thereafter, she won third prize at the Geneva International Competition in 1986. Alongside her work with the orchestra, she performs with various chamber ensembles and takes part in diverse artistic projects, such as the film Le Rossignol with Natalie Dessay—a musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale by C. Petit—and a staged version of Ma Mère l’Oye directed by filmmaker Pamela Varela.

She has recorded Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp, as well as sonatas for clarinet and harp. Several art songs with mezzo-soprano Anna Wall have been captured on video, along with Caplet’s Contes fantastiques.
