Roxana Constantinescu Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Roxana Constantinescu was born in Bucharest and studied in her native city under the guidance of Maria Slatinaru. From 2007 to 2010, she was a member of the Vienna Staatsoper troupe during which time she performed the roles of Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Nicklausse (Les contes d’Hoffmann), and Stéphano (Roméo et Juliette). She has made guest appearances at the Opéra Royal in Versailles (Emira in Siroe); the Rome Opera (the Musician in Manon Lescaut), the Zurich Opera and La Fenice in Venice (Adalgisa in Norma). She has also sung in Tel Aviv (Fenena in Nabucco) and Los Angeles (Dorabella with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Despina and Zerlina at the Los Angeles Opera). Her other guest appearances include performances at the Vienna Staatsoper, the Berlin Deutsche Oper and the New National Theatre in Tokyo (Rosina); the Theater an der Wien (Nicklausse); the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse (Dorabella, Fatima in Obéron), the Minnesota Opera (Charlotte in Werther); the Bucharest Opera (the title role in La Cenerentola); the Montpellier Opera (Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream); the Oviedo Opera and the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari (the title role in Carmen). Roxana Constantinescu also performs in concert (Verdi’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elias, Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Missa Solemni, and Bach’s St John Passion). More recently, she sang on a European tour with the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock (Vienna Konzerthaus, Luxembourg Philharmonie, the Hamburg Laeiszhalle and the Essen Philharmonie).

Roxana Constantinescu is making her Paris Opera debut.
