Renato Girolami Bass baritone

Biography

Renato Girolami studied in Rome under Sesto Bruscantini and then attended the Musikhochschule in Munich. 

He made his debut in Passau and Salzburg and then became a member of the Vienna Volksoper and Staatsoper troupes where he sang numerous roles including Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola), Taddeo (L’italiana in Algeri), Schaunard (La Bohème), Sharpless (Madame Butterfly), Belcore and Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), and Belfiore (Un giorno di regno). 

He has made guest appearances at La Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, the Salzburg Festival, the New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Opéra national du Rhin (Strasbourg), the Aalto Theater in Essen, the Stuttgart Staatstheater, the Theater an der Wien, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the New Israeli Opera, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Lille Opera, and the Gothenburg Opera, during which time he was able to sing some of his favourite roles (Don Magnifico and Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia, Dulcamara and Fra Melitone in La Forza del destino, and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte). 

More recently, he appeared as Dulcamara and Don Magnifico at the Vienna Staatsoper and sang the title role in Don Pasquale at the Glyndebourne Festival. He also sang the roles of Geronimo (Il Matrimonio segreto) at the Cologne Opera, the title role of Falstaff in Stockholm, Fra Melitone in Cologne and Zurich, the title role in Gianni Schicchi in Oslo, Bartolo at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Dresden Semperoper, the Palm Beach Opera and at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and the Paris Opera, Don Magnifico in Oslo, Düsseldorf, Vienna, Madrid and Munich.
