He has also been active as a set designer since 2007, and as a director in his own right since 2014. He proposes a symbiosis between stage and projections, a fusion between music and stage action. His work has taken him to numerous European festivals, including Salzburg, Bayreuth and Bregenz, as well as the opera houses of Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Hanover, Oslo, Paris, Toulouse, Nancy, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Vienna, Budapest, Barcelona and Florence, not to mention international theaters in North America, China, India and the Middle East.

He recently designed the sets for La Femme sans ombre at the Baden-Baden Festival, Anatevka at the Würzburg Theater, The Magic Flute at Munich's Gärtnerplatztheater, Candide at the Theater an der Wien and Jesus Christ Superstar at the Staatstheater Nürnberg.
