Matthew Goodheart Tenor

Biography

Artist in residence at the Academy since September 2025

Originally from the United States, Matthew Goodheart graduated from the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati, where he was also a resident artist with the Academy of Vocal Arts for two seasons.

Matthew Goodheart joined the Academy of the Paris National Opera in September 2025. He performs the role of Count Belfiore in Julie Delille’s new production of La Finta giardiniera at MC93 – Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis and makes his debut on the stage of the Palais Garnier with the Orchestra of the Paris National Opera in the concert La Nuit et l’Amour, conducted by Stephanie Childress.

In the United States, he made his debut with The Dallas Opera as Remendado (Carmen) and at Carnegie Hall as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Cecilia Chorus of New York in 2025. He also covered the role of Count Almaviva (The Barber of Seville) for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and performed Gastone (La Traviata) with Wolf Trap Opera. The same year, he joined the Academy of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and The Santa Fe Opera as an apprentice artist. In summer 2023, he was a Fleming Artist at the Aspen Music Festival and School.

His repertoire also includes Percy (Anna Bolena), Count Almaviva (The Barber of Seville), and Alfredo (La Traviata).

He will perform the role of Benvolio in Roméo et Juliette at the Paris National Opera in June 2027.
