Biography

Born in Albi, France, Martin Chaix started his dance training at the age of 6. He entered the Paris Opera Ballet School in 1993 and joined the Paris Opera Ballet in 1999. In 2006, he became a soloist at the Leipzig Ballet, then at the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg (2009-2015). As a dancer, he performed in ballets by Roland Petit, Carolyn Carlson, Rudolf Nureyev, John Neumeier, George Balanchine, Pina Bausch, Édouard Lock, Uwe Scholz, John Cranko, Marco Goecke, Mats Ek, Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen and Martin Schläpfer.

An independant choreographer since 2015, Martin Chaix made his choreographic debut at the Paris Opera Ballet (2006) and then in Germany in various Young Choreographers evenings. He received many commissions from companies such as the Leipzig Ballet (2007 and 2015), the Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg (2013 and 2019), the Theater Saarbrücken Ballet (2015), the Croatian National Theatre Ballet in Split (2017) and in Rijeka (2019), as well as the Opéra national du Rhin Ballet (Tribulation, 2018).

Recent creations include Silentium (2020) for Svetlana Zakharova (Bolshoi Ballet) or his version of Giselle (2023) for the Opéra national du Rhin. While leading a career as a choreographer, he is committed to training the new generation of dancers with choreographic workshops (Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Australia) and classical dance classes. Martin Chaix is also interested in dance movies and has a passion for photography. One of his videos was selected for the One Minute Film Festival in Amsterdam in 2013.
