Biography

Julia Kleiter comes from Limburg, Germany, and studied with singing teachers including William Workmann in Hamburg and Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne, before making her operatic debut on the leading international stages.

One of her first roles is Pamina (The Magic Flute) that she sang in several productions in Madrid, Zurich, New York, Munich and at the Salzburg Festival. She has been working with many conductors, including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marc Minkowski, Claudio Abbado, Adam Fischer and Philippe Jordan.

Julia Kleiter performs a vast repertoire and her many roles include Agathe (Der Freischütz), Ilia (Idomeneo), the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro) and the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier). She has been performing in Milan (Teatro alla Scala), London (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden), Munich (Bayerische Staatsoper) and Hamburg, among other stages.

As a concert singer, Julia Kleiter also performs with many orchestras, including Gewandhaus Orchestra (Leipzig) and Sächsische Staatskapelle (Dresden) and took part in Festivals such as Easter Festival in Salzburg, the Schubertiades in Schwarzenberg and Schubertiada in Vilabertran.

She recorded several CDs and DVDs, including a selection of Franz Liszt’s lieder alongside Julius Drake (Hyperion), lieder by Hugo Wolf with Christian Gerhaher, and was part of Schumann - the complete songs (Sony).
