Heikki Parviainen Percussion

Biography

Heikki Parviainen studied music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (Finland), the Musikhögskolan in Malmö (Sweden) and the Civica Scuola in Milan (Italy). He was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra and the Norden Orkester, with whom he still works as a percussion teacher. He is currently the timpanist and percussionist at the Finnish National Orchestra, after having been the timpanist at the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. He is the dedicatee and the first person to perform the concerto for marimba by the Finnish composer Arttu Takalo. Heikki Parviainen is also an avid enthusiast of early music and performs as a timpanist with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra.
