Born in Switzerland and raised in the United States, François López-Ferrer holds a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne and a Bachelor’s degree in composition from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Winner of the 2024 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, he has been resident conductor of the Paris National Opera Academy, associate conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the May Festival, associate conductor of the Chilean National Symphony Orchestra, and principal conductor of the Chilean National Ballet.
He was also a Dudamel Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and won first prize in the Neeme Järvi Competition at the inaugural Menuhin Gstaad Festival Conducting Academy in 2015. Recent engagements include Il trovatore at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Il barbiere di Siviglia at Opera San Antonio, and The Turn of the Screw at the Spoleto Festival. In the symphonic field, he has conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Vienna Volksoper Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
