Biography

Domingo Hindoyan is the Chief Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he began his career as a violinist and member of the Venezuelan musical education program El Sistema, and then was a member of Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. He was the first assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin between 2013 and 2016.

During his first season in Liverpool, he made his debut at the BBC Proms, after which he embarked upon various recording projects. He made educational programmes, world premieres and commissions a priority.

His album Verismo, recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and released in October 2023, explores preludes and intermezzos of the Italian opera. Their last recording, Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony, was released in February 2024.

The 2023/24 highlights include a return to the BBC Proms with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and concerts with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He also made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Minnesota Orchestra.

On the opera stage, this season sees Domingo Hindoyan return to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin in a production of Madama Butterfly, and at the 'Opéra national de Bordeaux for Rusalka.
