Aurélie Maestre explores all areas of stage design, including theater, opera and dance. Her collaboration with director Vincent Huguet began with the premiere of Patrice Chéreau's Elektra at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. Since then, they have collaborated on such landmark projects as La Femme sans ombre at the Vienna State Opera, Les Histoires sacrées with Ensemble Correspondances, and Didon et Énée at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. They also created the Mozart Da Ponte trilogy at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Aurélie Maestre began her career as an assistant at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. She created her first theatrical set in 2001 for La Mouette at the Théâtre National de Brest. Since 2014, she has worked with the Compagnie des Petits Champs on several shows, including Monsieur de Pourceaugnac with Les Arts Florissants.
In 2021, she will design the sets for La Cerisaie at the Comédie-Française and for Les Éclairs at the Opéra Comique, both projects directed by Clément Hervieux-Léger. In the field of dance, she recently collaborated with the Ballets de l'Opéra national du Rhin on the set design for On achève bien les chevaux. Committed to using art as a vehicle for social change, this year Aurélie Maestre co-founded Masterpiece for Good, an NGO dedicated to mobilizing art for community engagement and social development. She also continues to work as a scenographer, creating her studio, Atelier Ambiant, which focuses on events and museography.
