Biography

Member of the Chorus of the Paris Opera

Born in Montevideo, Andrés Prunell-Vulcano began his guitar studies with Carlos Benavides before joining the choir of his hometown under the direction of Rosemarie Rodriguez. He trained in the operatic, oratorio, and lied repertoire with Alicia Pietrafesa Bonnet. From 2007, he began performing as a soloist at the Montevideo Opera, in works such as Carmen, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Madama Butterfly, The Barber of Seville, and Nabucco.

In 2010, he made his concert debut at the Montevideo Philharmonic after winning first prize in the competition organized by the Jeunesses Musicales of Uruguay. In 2011, he joined the National Choir of Uruguay, continuing his musical training while performing as a soloist until 2014.

He was invited to Paris to further his training with the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris, singing under the direction of Henri Chalet, Lionel Sow, and Sylvain Dieudonné. In Germany, he worked with Helmuth Rilling, Kathy Romey, and H. C. Rademann, and toured extensively across Europe, South America, and Africa. As part of the Opera Joven Festival in Uruguay, he performed the role of Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) under the baton of Esteban Louise, earning a special mention from the jury at the Mozart Competition of the City of Granada for this same role.

At Notre-Dame de Paris, Andrés Prunell-Vulcano has appeared as a soloist in St John Passion and Magnificat by Bach, Mozart’s Requiem and Vespers, Duruflé’s Requiem, as well as in various sacred music programs with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris. He portrayed Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea) at the “Le Temps Suspendu” Festival and took part in the first modern revival of La Magia Delusa by Antonio Bertali at the Roya Early Music Festival. In 2023, he joined the Chorus of the Paris Opera.
