Aigul Akhmetshina Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Aigul Akhmetshina trained at the Ufa Arts College, Russia, and continues to work with Nailya Yusupova. After joining the Jette Parker Young Artists Program at London's Royal Opera House in 2017-2018, she performed Paulina (The Queen of Spades) at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Rosina (The Barber of Seville) and Olga (Eugene Onegin) at Israel Opera, and Dulcinea (Don Quixote) at the Wexford Festival.

She has appeared with the Russian National Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. She sang Prince Orlofsky (The Bat) at the New National Theater in Tokyo, Varvara (Kátia Kabanová) and the title role of Carmen at the Glyndebourne Festival, Carmen at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Angelina (La Cenerentola) at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Rosina at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Paulina at the Baden-Baden Festival with the Berlin Philharmonic; Rosina and Charlotte (Werther) at the Royal Opera House London; Olga at the San Francisco Opera; Maddalena (Rigoletto) and Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera New York; Romeo (Les Capulet et les Montaigu) at the Salzburg Festival; Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.

In the 2024-2025 season, she will perform Carmen in Munich, Verona, Naples, Vienna and London, and the roles of Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) in Madrid, Adalgisa (Norma) in Vienna and Rosina at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Aigul Akhmetshina is a member of the International Union of Musicians of the Shalyapin Center. She was awarded the grand prize in the Hans Gabor Belvedere competition.
