Swarovski sets a Midsummer Night’s Dream alight

25 January 2017The 2017/2018 season 3 March 2017Hugo Marchand named Étoile Dancer at the Paris Opera

Thanks to the generous support of Swarovski, a total of 210 costumes have been fashioned to bring radiance to the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

In reality, it was a colossal task making these unprecedented costumes: 70 craftsmen were mobilised for some ten thousand working hours. Almost a million crystals were needed to create the 90 jewelled headdresses, the 35 tutus and the other remaining costumes. A "butterfly wing" motif was specially developed for the occasion and 8 different techniques, including flatback Hotfix, sew-on stones, stone settings and even cupchains, were used to complete the work.

In short, a wide-reaching project set in motion to prepare for a seminal end-of-season production clearly intended to bedazzle audiences.
