Performed by the Paris Opera Orchestra and Chorus under the baton of Philippe Jordan, this DVD box set features all of Beethoven’s nine symphonies.

Recorded at the Opéra Bastille and the Palais Garnier, Philippe Jordan has chosen some of the great soloists of our times for the performances, including Ricarda Merbeth (Soprano), Daniela Sindram (Mezzo-soprano), Robert Dean Smith (Tenor) and Günther Groissböck (Bass). The DVD version of the cycle of Beethoven’s nine Symphonies includes the documentary Philippe Jordan - Born to Conduct by Reiner E. Motitz which presents the dazzling career of the Paris Opera’s musical director.

Philippe Jordan reflects on a season devoted to Beethoven: “His nine symphonies offer a striking portrait for the listener—a portrait that is never complete. For the Orchestra, it represents an opportunity for experimentation and synthesis. This exploration of Beethoven’s work culminates in the magnificent “Ninth” which features the combined talents of the Paris Opera Orchestra and Chorus.”

The DVD box set, recorded by Arthaus-musik will be available exclusively in the gift shops of the Palais Garnier and the Opéra Bastille until 21 October. It will be available everywhere in France afterwards.
