"I wish you all a beautiful International Dance Day, a day to celebrate sharing and communion thanks to and around a universal art"
José Martinez, Director of Dance
On 29 April, the Paris Opera Ballet is celebrating the International Dance Day with Maurice Béjart’s ballet Boléro, set to Ravel’s eponymous score. Forged by a mythical style, the piece continues to vibrate more than sixty years after its creation…
The magnetic red table is welcoming the Melody (here performed by Etoile dancer Dorothée Gilbert). And gathered around her is the Rhythm, embodied by forty wild, almost violent dancers, who gradually try to catch the Melody until the explosive finale...
Many performers, men or women, have and will set foot on this legendary table, and each one of them shine with different colours and intensity.
Boléro is part of the history of dance, both as an individual and a collective story of dancers and spectators.
Discover the Boléro and accompanied by other mythical pieces by the choreographer,
until 28 May 2023 at the Opéra Bastille.
Watch the Opera’s Etoiles, Premiers danseurs and Corps de Ballet in filmed performances of the greatest classical, but also neoclassical and contemporary ballets.
