Yuja Wang Piano

Biography

The pianist Yuja Wang performs with the greatest conductors, musicians and ensembles throughout the world. Born into a family of musicians, she began studying the piano at the age of six. She received advanced training in Canada and at the Curtis Institute of Music under Gary Graffman. Her international breakthrough came in 2007, when she replaced Martha Argerich as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Two years later, she signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon.

She has since established herself as one of the world's leading artists, thanks to a series of critically acclaimed concerts and albums. Her recordings have garnered numerous awards: nominated five times for a Grammy Award, she triumphed in 2023 in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category with her album "The American Project". She also won an Opus Klassik award in the Concerto category.

During the 2024-2025 season, she will tour Europe and South America with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, with whom she is artist in residence, and will return to the United States, where she is midway through a residency with the New York Philharmonic. She recently embarked on an international duo recital tour with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson in North America and Europe, performing highly varied programmes.

She will open Carnegie Hall's 2025-2026 season, playing and conducting Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 from the keyboard.
