Biography

Born in Cyprus, Yiorgo Ioannou studied at the Royal College of Music in London. He completed his training during master classes, such as in Milan, Italy, where he received advice from Leo Nucci for Haydn's Il Mondo della Luna, which he created with the Royal College of Music.

Throughout his training, he performed in concert with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, at the Lincoln Center in New York with pianist Cyprien Katsaris, and following the invitation of Placido Domingo at the Europa Nostra in Hrwdeio. 

Yiorgo Ioannou joins the Académie de l'Opéra national de Paris in September 2021. In spring 2022, he portrays Mercurio in Il Nerone – L'Incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi with the artists of the Académie, and the Poème Harmonique in a staging by Alain Françon under the direction of Vincent Dumestre at the Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet and on tour at the Dijon Opera and the Maison de la Culture in Amiens.

In 2022-23 at the Bastille Opera, he was one of the Nazarenes in Strauss' Salome in Lydia Steier’s production, conducted by Simone Young, and sang Gregorio in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette in Thomas Jolly’s production, conducted by Carlo Rizzi. In the spring of 2023, he is Germano in Rossini’s La Scala di seta with the artists of the Academy in a production by Pascal Neyron, conducted by Elisabeth Askren at the Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet.
