Biography

After studying musicology and composition, Samy Camps entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon. In 2013, he was a boarder at the Fondation Royaumont and the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. He was nominated in the Lyric Revelation category at the 2015 Victoires de la Musique awards, and attended masterclasses with Teresa Berganza, François Le Roux, Udo Reinemann and Ruben Lifschitz. He plays Alfredo (La Traviata), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and Tamino (a Magic Flute for young audiences).

Since 2016, he has collaborated with the Palazzetto Bru Zane and director Pierre-André Weitz: revival of Hervé's Les Chevaliers de la Table ronde (Roland), creation and tour of Mam'zelle Nitouche (Champlâtreux). He takes part in contemporary creations: Noël Lee's cantata Paraboles, Pierrette Fleutiaux and Pierre Bartholomée's opera Nous sommes éternels (le Mari d'Estelle). He enriches his repertoire with works by Offenbach, notably La Vie parisienne (Gardefeu), La Périchole (Piquillo) and Orphée aux Enfers (title role).

More recently, he has taken on the role of Don José (Carmen, une étoile du cirque) at Opéra de Rouen, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Festival de Flayosc. He is also Alfredo at the Eva Ganizate Festival and the Fabrique-Opéra Val-de-Loire, Camille (La Veuve joyeuse) at the Opéra d'Avignon and the Opéra de Nice, and a herald (Don Carlo) at the Opéra de Marseille. Last season, he appeared as Guglielmo (Elisabeth, Queen of England) and Guy Florès (L'Auberge du Cheval Blanc) at Opéra de Marseille, and as Macduff (Macbeth) at Opéra de Saint-Étienne. In the 2023-2024 season, he is Pelléas (Pelléas et Mélisande) in Tallinn, the title role in Orphée aux Enfers in Lausanne and Danieli (Les Vêpres siciliennes) at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. His recordings include Beethoven's 9th Symphony and Tous les cris les SOS with Jean-Laurent Ducroiset.
