Samantha Gossard Mezzo-soprano

Biography

Samantha Gossard trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’s Gerdine Young Artist Program, the Central City Opera and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Her repertoire includes Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Sister Sophia in The Sound of Music (Central City Opera), the title role in Serse, Ramiro in La Finta Giardiniera (Cleveland Institute of Music), the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Aspen Opera Theatre Center), Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Mercedes in Carmen, the Third Nymph in Rusalka, Zulma in L’italiana in Algeri, and Madeleine Aubert in Silent Night (Lyric Opera, Kansas City). More recently, she received particular praise for her performance in the role of Cherubino at the Lyric Opera in Kansas City, where she was artist in residence and where, last season, she also performed the roles of Jade Boucher (Dead Man Walking) and Kate (The Pirates of Penzance). Samantha Gossard also performs in concert (Octavian from Der Rosenkavalier with the Duke Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mahler’s Symphony N° 2 with the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra at Severance Hall). She was a semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2016 and, during the 2016 / 2017 season, she won the William Mattheus Sullivan Musical Foundation Award. She was also admitted into the Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Program for Young Singers.
