Biography

In his thirty years as associate director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Peter McClintock has directed over seventy opera productions at that theatre. He recently restaged productions of Ernani, Andrea Chénier, Khovanshchina, Simon Boccanegra, The Queen of Spades, La Gioconda, La Clemenza di Tito, Les Vêpres siciliennes, Die Walküre, Twilight of the Gods, Moses und Aron, Il Trovatore, Faust, Eugene Onegin, Carmen, Samson et Dalila, Manon, and The Mastersingers of Nuremberg.
In 2007, he assisted Patrice Chéreau with his production of From the House of the Dead which premiered at the Theater an der Wien and was then restaged in Amsterdam, at the Aix Festival, the Metropolitan Opera, Milan’s La Scala and Berlin’s Staatsoper. In 2013, he assisted Patrice Chéreau again, this time for Elektra at the Aix Festival.
He oversaw subsequent revivals of that production at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Finnish National Opera as well as in Berlin and Barcelona. Peter McClintock has also worked at the National Center of Performing Arts in Beijing, the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, the Washington National Opera, the Lyric Opera in Chicago, the Houston Grand Opera, and the Vancouver Opera. He studied at the University of California in Los Angeles and began his career at the San Francisco Opera as an assistant stage manager before becoming stage director.
