Biography

Born near Nuremberg, Patrick Lange he was accepted in 2005 into the funding programme of the Dirigentenforum of the German Music Council and appointed Assistant Conductor of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra by Claudio Abbado. He accompanied the Italian conductor to the Berlin Philharmonic, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra Mozart Bologna. In 2007, he received the European Cultural Award in the ‘Young Conductors of the Year’ category. He was then named first Kapellmeister at Komische Oper Berlin in 2008 and has been working there as Music Director since 2010.

The same year, he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera and then at Dresden Semperoper, Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Hamburg Staatsoper, Opera Australia, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Zurich Opernhaus, Korean National Opera, Stuttgart Staatsoper, Opéra national du Rhin and Frankfurt Opera. Patrick Lange is working with orchestras such as the Tonkünstler Orchester, the Hamburg and Bamberg Symphony Orchestras, the Munich Radio Orchestra, the SWR and WDR Symphony Orchestras and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, with debut at Concertgebouw.

He has toured with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. From 2017-18 to 2021-22, he was Music Director of the Wiesbaden Hessisches Staatstheater. In the 2022-23 season, he returns to the Wien Staatsoper for Die Fledermaus, and the ballets Sleeping Beauty and Au septième ciel. He also conducts a new production of The Flying Dutchman at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Der Freischütz at Theater an der Wien.
