Biography

Patrick Fournillier is currently Musical Director of the Polish National Opera - Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, having previously held the same position at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in Helsinki.

His engagements include Cyrano de Bergerac at La Scala in Milan, Les Contes d'Hoffmann at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Don Giovanni and La Damnation de Faust at the Dresden Staatsoper, Faust at the Zurich Opera, Don Carlo and Manon at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Werther at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Werther and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Chicago Opera, The Marriage of Figaro and Hamlet at Washington Opera, Samson et Dalila at Stockholm Opera, Manon, Iphigénie en Tauride and Thaïs at Opéra de Valence, Cyrano de Bergerac at Théâtre du Châtelet, Manon at San Francisco Opera, as well as performances of Thaïs at NCPA in Beijing and Teatro Real in Madrid. He was also founder and musical director of the Festival Massenet de Saint-Étienne.

He regularly conducts symphonic repertoire in London, Oslo, Milan, Zurich, Prague, Amsterdam, Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Vienna, Washington, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Moscow and St. Petersburg. He is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi di Milano and previously held the position of Music Director of the Orchestra Sinfonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma for six years.

Patrick Fournillier has made recordings of numerous titles by composers such as Massenet, Gounod and Mozart. He won the Grand Prix du Disque for two recordings of French opera arias with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, one with Rockwell Blake and the other with Natalie Dessay, as well as the Gold Diapason Award for the world premiere recording of Joseph Haydn's oratorio Applausus.
