Paata Burchuladze was born in Georgia and studied at the Tbilisi State Conservatory and La Scala, Milan. His notable operatic appearances include Rossini’s Don Basilio, Konchak Prince Igor, Grand Inquisitor The Fiery Angel, Tsar Dodon The Golden Cockerel, Boris Godunov, Attila, Walther Luisa Miller, Timur, Jacopo Fiesco, Sobakin The Tsar’s Bride and Grand Inquisitor Don Carlo (Royal Opera House); Boris Godunov, Gounod’s Méphistophélès and Zaccaria in Nabucco (Paris Opéra); Walther, Boris Godunov, Nabucco, Grand Inquisitor and Prince Ivan Khovansky in Khovanshchina (Vienna State Opera); Zaccaria, Ramfis, Banquo, Jacopo Fiesco, Boris Godunov, Walther and Sparafucile (Teatro alla Scala); and Boris Godunov, Prince Ivan Khovansky, the Commendatore, Grand Inquisitor and Zaccaria (Metropolitan Opera, New York). His titles include Commendatore (Italy), Kammersänger (Germany), the 1st Class Austrian Cross of Honor and United Nations Goodwill and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
