Biography

Olivia Boen studied at the Oberlin Music Conservatoire and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she was a Golden Medal laureate in 2021. She then completed her training at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Verbier Festival, Internationale Meistersinger Akademie, and the Ravinia Steans Music Institute. She received the 2019 London Song Festival’s English Melody Prize, the 2018 Musicians Club of Women Competition’s First Prize, the Musicians scholarship by the Frank Huntington Beebe Foundation and the Tuesday Musical Competition’s First Prize in 2017. In recent seasons, she made her European debut at the Verbier Festival in the roles of Die Stimme des Falken (Die Frau Ohne Schatten) and The First Lady (The Magic Flute).

She also portrayed roles such as Countess Susanna (Il segreto di Susanna), the Queen Mother (The Little Green Swallow), the title-roles in Alcina, Serse and Les Mamelles de Tirésias, and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi).

She also gave recitals at the Wigmore Hall, in St Martin-in-the-Fields, the London Song Festival, the Opera Holland Park, the Verbier Festival, the LSO St. Luke's, the Dame Myra Hess Recital Series, the Ravinia Festival and for a tour with the Oxford International Song Festival. During the 2023/24 season, she returned at the Hamburg Staatsoper in the roles of Musetta (La Bohème), Xenia (Boris Godunov), Inez (Le Trouvère) and Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore). She made her stage debut at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie in the title-role of Paradise and the Peri, and with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in the role of Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) at Bridgewater Hall. Other concert appearances include “Ah, Perfido!” (Beethoven) with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Grant Park Music Festival and Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra at the London Barbican Centre.
