Biography

The American soprano Nicole Chevalier studied literature, drama and singing at Indiana University and continued her vocal training at the Juilliard School in New York. Since then, she has performed an extensive repertoire ranging from baroque music to contemporary works, with a particular affinity for the great soprano roles of Mozart, Donizetti and Verdi. She appeared as Violetta Valéry (La Traviata) at the Hanover Staatsoper and the Stuttgart Staatsoper and she sang the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor in Hamburg and Hanover. She has also performed the roles of Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Vienna Volksoper and the Berlin Komische Oper and Princess Eudoxie (La Juive) at the Flanders Opera. From 2012 to 2017 she was a member of the Komische Oper troupe.

During that time, she sang the four soprano roles in Les Contes d’Hoffmann earning the prestigious German theatre award Der Faust for her performance. She also sang the title role in Semele, and appeared as Cunegonde (Candide), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Titania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus). Her performance in the title role of Aribert Reimann’s Medea resulted in her being named Singer of the Year in 2017 by the German magazine Opernwelt. In 2019, she made her Salzburg Festival debut (as Elettra in Idomeneo). She then sang Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) at the Theater an der Wien. She also made her debut performance at La Monnaie in Brussels in Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
