Mathias Auclair is a paleographer archivist, curator and director of the Music Department at the National Library of France. He has been working on the history of the Paris Opera for twenty years. He has curated around twenty exhibitions. ‘Le Palais Garnier: 150 Years of a Mythical Theatre’, currently on display at the Opera Library-Museum, is his latest.
He is the author of numerous publications, including: Rameau et la scène (Rameau and the Stage) (BnF editions, 2014) with Elizabeth Giuliani; Le Plafond de Chagall à l'Opéra Garnier (Gourcuff Gradenigo, 2014) with Pierre Provoyeur; L'Opéra de Paris: 350 ans d'histoire (Gourcuff Gradenigo, 2019), which received the Syndicat de la Critique prize; Bakst: le magicien des couleurs (Gourcuff Gradenigo, 2023) with Stéphane Barsacq; L’Opéra Garnier: dessins pour un chef-d’œuvre (Gourcuff Gradenigo, 2024).
He is a member of the Institute for Research in Musicology (IReMus) (CNRS, Sorbonne University, BnF, Ministry of Culture) (UMR 8223) and an associate member of the Jean-Mabillon Centre (École nationale des chartes) (EA 3624).
