Biography

Born in Mexico City, Maren Favela grew up in Germany and studied with Cheryl Studer at the Academy of Music in Würzburg then with Hedwig Fassbender at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. She has taken part in masterclasses with Margreet Hornig, Ingeborg Hallstein, Kai Wessel, Matthew Epstein, Edith Wiens and Ileana Cotrubas. From 2011 until 2013, she was a member of the Opera Studio at Frankfurt Opera. She has performed in Frankfurt in Adriana Lecouvreur (Mademoiselle Dangeville), Marriage of Figaro (Barbarina), The Magic Flute (Papagena), Ariadne auf Naxos (Echo), Rappresentatione di Anima e Corpo by Cavalieri (Vita mondana et Anima beata), Telemann’s Orpheus (Cephisa, Ismene), L’Orontea by Cesti (l’Amour, Tibrino) and Comedy on the Bridge by Martinů (Popelka). She has been invited to perform the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Oviedo Opera in Spain and made her debut as Rosina in The Barber of Seville at the Lucca Festival in Italy. In May 2015, she made her French debut with Limoges Opera as Fjordiligi in Così fan tutte. She has worked with directors such as Vincent Boussard, Harry Kupfer, Alfred Kirchner and Brigitte Fassbender. In January 2015, she was awarded the Audience’s Prize at the fourth edition of the Paris Opera Competition “Les Mozarts de l’Opéra” held at the Champs-Élysées Theatre.
