Born in Warsaw and trained in Germany, Marek Janowski regularly conducts the Berlin, Oslo and Dresden Philharmonic Orchestras, the Chicago, San Francisco and Cologne Symphony Orchestras, the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse romande.
Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France from 1984 to 2000, Principal Conductor of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne from 1986 to 1990, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin from 1997 to 1999, he subsequently served as Music Director of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000 to 2005, Artistic Director of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin from 2002 to 2016, and Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra from 2019 to 2023.
During the 2025–2026 season, he conducts, among others, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the New York and Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestras, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse.
