Born in Nancy, Louis Geisler studied history and literature in Metz before joining Sciences Po Aix. In 2011, he joined the Aix-en-Provence Festival to work alongside Bernard Foccroulle and then Pierre Audi. Since September 2020, he is dramaturge and editor-in-chief of the Opéra national du Rhin.
From 2017 to 2022, he is invited to work with director Vincent Huguet at the Opéra national de Bordeaux (Les Voyages de Don Quichotte, La Vie parisienne and Les Contes d'Hoffmann), the Vienna Staatsoper (La Femme sans ombre), the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Così fan tutte, The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni), the Aix-en-Provence Festival (Dido and Aeneas) as well as the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and the Bilbao Opera.
Between 2020 and 2022, he worked with composer Bernard Foccroulle and librettist Matthew Jocelyn on the opera Cassandra, commissioned by La Monnaie de Bruxelles. In 2021, he wrote a monologue for a series of concerts around Alcina at the Opéra national du Rhin, where he also worked with Johanny Bert on The Magic Flute. From 2022, he will work with director Marie-Ève Signeyrole on the world premieres of Cassandra at La Monnaie, Brussels, Romeo and Juliet at the Theater an der Wien, Norma at the Opéra national du Rhin, Macbeth at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, Médée at the Opéra Comique and Così fan tutte at the Opéra national de Lyon. This summer, he will work with Christof Loy as dramaturge for Louise at the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
