Born in Charleville-Mézières, Laurent Lefèvre graduated in bassoon and chamber music from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he entered at the age of 14. He holds the certificate of qualification for bassoon teaching and teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris, and gives masterclasses worldwide.
He received the first prize at the Toulon International Competition (1988), the I.D.R.S.-Fernand Gillet Competition (1989), the Geneva International Music Performance Competition (1995), the City of Paris Competition with the Paris-Bastille Wind Octet (1992), and the Special Jury Prize at the Tokyo International Competition with the Claude Debussy Quintet (1989).
A member of the Paris Opera Orchestra since 1991, he holds the position of "super soloist" bassoon. He is also regularly invited as solo bassoonist with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. In 2012, he was appointed solo bassoonist of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich following a competition, but chose to remain with the Paris Opera Orchestra.
Laurent Lefèvre has recorded several albums as a soloist and in chamber music programs.
