Biography

Kate Aldrich was born in the United States and made her debut in 2000 in La Forza del Destino (as Preziosilla) at the Verona Arenas. The following year, she played Amneris in the Franco Zeffirelli production of Aida at the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Busseto for the 200th anniversary of the death of Verdi. Soon thereafter, her career took on an international dimension: She sang the title role of Giulio Cesare at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Hamburg Staatsoper, Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito) in Prague, Rosina (The Barber of Seville) and Isabella (L’Italiana in Algeri) in Lisbon, Frédéric (Mignon) at Carnegie Hall, Charlotte (Werther) at the Teatro Regio in Turin and in Japan with the Lyon Opera, Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia) in Washington D.C., Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) in San Diego and Palermo, Nero (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) at the Liceu in Barcelona, Adalgisa (Norma) in Montreal, Miami, Vancouver and Bologna, the title role in Mariotte’s Salomé at the Montpellier Opera, Ascanio (Benvenuto Cellini) at the Salzburg Festival, the title role in Carmen at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper, Berlin’s Deutsche Oper, as well as the Verona Arena, and Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) and the title role in Reyer’s Salammbô in Marseille. She also made her debut at Milan’s La Scala singing the role of Rosina, and performed the title role of Zelmira at the Pesaro Festival. More recently, she played Sesto at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Marseille and the Innsbruck Festwochen, then went on to sing the roles of Adalgisa in Turin, Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at the Caramoor Festival, the Muse and Nicklausse (The Tales of Hoffmann) at the Paris Opera, Carmen in Seoul, Zurich, Berlin, Beijing, Tokyo, Vancouver, Dresden, Naples, the Verbier Festival and the Chorégies d’Orange, Varedha (Massenet’s Le Mage) in Saint-Étienne, Frank Martin’s Golgotha at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Adalgisa at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Leonore (La Favorite) in Toulouse, Jane Seymour (Anna Bolena) in Toulon and Moscow, Idamante (Idomeneo), Carmen and Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust) at the Lyon Opera, Rosmira (Handel’s Partenope) and Statira (Spontini’s Olimpie) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and Arden Scott (Jake Heggie’s Great Scott) in San Diego.
