Grammy Award winner Karen Kamensek is renowned for her deep commitment to contemporary music. Her close collaboration with Philip Glass has led her to conduct his operas and symphonic works around the world. Karen Kamensek is regularly invited to conduct at numerous opera houses around the world, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Lyric Opera in Chicago, the Royal Opera in Stockholm, the English National Opera, the Welsh National Opera, the Norwegian National Opera and the Opéra national du Rhin. In concert, she has conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the RTVE Symphony Orchestra in Madrid.
She has been Music Director of the Hanover State Opera (2011-2016), Kappellmeister of the Vienna Volksoper, Music Director of the Freiburg Theatre, Acting Music Director of the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor, and Associate Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera.
During the 2025–2026 season, she will make her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona with Akhnaten and at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie with the world premiere of Bartleby. She returned to the Royal Opera in Stockholm for the Swedish premiere of Elena Langer's Figaro Gets a Divorce and performed with the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Symphony Orchestra (Washington), the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestras of São Paulo, Tenerife and Cyprus.
