Biography

Julien Monty graduated from the Paris Music and Dance Conservatoire in 1997 and then joined the Opéra de Nice’s Ballet. He later joined the contemporary dance companies B-Valiente Kompani, Jo Strömgren Kompani and Nye Carte Blanche in Norway. He returned to France to join the Ballet Preljocaj for two seasons, then the Lyon Opera Ballet.

Since 2001, he has been closely involved in the work of François Laroche-Valière. In 2005, he co-founded the Loge 22 collective in Lyon with Marie Goudot and Michaël Pomero, where he works as a performer and choreographer. Together, they created a dozen pieces, choreographic events and co-founded SPIDER, a travelling cooperative of European artists.

In 2010, he joined the Rosas company. He took part as a dancer in the creation of five pieces: Cesena (2011), Vortex Temporum (2013), Work/Travail/Arbeid (2015), Così fan tutte (2017) and Mitten wir im Leben sind/Bach6Cellosuiten (2017). He is also regularly called upon by Boris Charmatz to take part in the 20 danseurs pour le XXe siècle project. From September 2020 to September 2022, he teaches contemporary dance at Lyon Dance and Music Conservatoire. He is also assistant choreographer with the collective (La)Horde and has been a rehearsal director with the Ballet national de Marseille since 2022.
