Jean-Christophe Branger

Biography
Jean-Christophe Branger is Professor of Musicology at Université Lumière Lyon 2. His research focuses primarily on musical life and creation in France during the Third Republic, with particular attention to lyric theatre.
He is the author of several monographs and articles on this period, notably on Jules Massenet, to whom he has recently devoted a biographical study (Jules Massenet : une vie au service du théâtre, Fayard, 2024). The book received the Prize for Best Music Book of the Year 2023–2024 from the Syndicat de la critique (theatre, music, dance), as well as the Grand Prix France Musique–Claude Samuel 2025.
