Iris Oja Alto

Biography

A soloist at the Estonian Philharmonic Choir from 2000 to 2011, Iris Oja is as passionate about baroque and romantic music as she is about contemporary music. She has introduced and recorded numerous works by Estonian composers. She is a member of Resonabilis, a contemporary music ensemble that brings together an original mix of voice, flute, violoncello and kannel (a traditional Estonian string instrument). In 2012, in association with the Jazz duo UMA, she presented a project combining improvisation with the performance of Russian liturgical music. She has recorded numerous CDs for the Harmonia mundi label (Russian Songs with the pianist Roger Vignoles, Moon Plain on the compositions of Klaus Ib Jorgensen) as well as with the Resonabilis ensemble and UMA (Peidus Pool).
