Biography

Iréne Theorin graduated from the Music Academy and Royal Opera School of Copenhagen, and is performing on the greatest international opera stages.

Last season, she was Brünnhilde (Die Walküre and Götterdämmerung) at the Bayreuth Festival, Brünnhilde (Die Walküre) in Stockholm, and she made a double appearance as Ortrud (Lohengrin) at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and the Berlin Staatsoper unter den Linden.

Other recent engagements include the complete Ring cycle at the Berlin Staatsoper unter den Linden, the title-role in Turandot at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid and New National Theatre Tokyo, the title-role in Elektra at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Brünnhilde (Die Walküre) at the Royal Swedish Opera, Ortrud at the Flemish Opera, the title-role in La Gioconda at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

In the 2022/23 season, she made her debut at the Baden-Baden Festival as the Dyer’s wife (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and returned at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin as Kostelnicka (Jenůfa). She joined Lise Davidsen and Waltraud Meier at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, for the Institution’s 175th anniversary concert, where she also sang the role of Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle.

On the concert platform, Iréne Theorin has recently performed a recital at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Los Angeles Victoria Foundation in Barcelona. Her DVD recordings include Elektra at the Salzburg Festival and Götterdämmerung at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Tristan und Isolde filmed in Bayreuth and the Ring in Copenhagen.

In March 2015, she was elected Best Singer of the Year in Spain for her performance of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre in Barcelona in 2014, and she was made Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
